Lasater, Edith Marie (Cleveland)

Edith Marie Lasater, 92, of Cleveland, TN and formerly of Atlanta, GA, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 in a local health care facility.

She was the first secretary for the Cleveland Community Concert Association and a former member of the Cleveland Music Club. Edith was known for her association within advertising circles and Radio Station WQXI and CBS Radio Representatives. She worked in the Accounting Department, and then was made a troubleshooter for 6 radio stations. When Esquire, Inc. bought WQXI, she became office manager. She later joined Edward Petry & Co., Inc. the original radio station representative and then went to CBS Radio Representatives where she was Senior Sales Assistant. She retired from CBS to return to her home town of Cleveland, Tennessee, to take care of her only sister, who later passed away.
Edith was an active member of American Women in Radio and Television. She served on various committees, as Historian and later as a Director for three terms. She worked tirelessly when the local chapter AWRT hosted International Broadcasters who visited Atlanta. She was Hospitality Chairperson for the national convention of American Women in Radio and Television in Atlanta and recognized as performing a superb job in that capacity. She was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by parents, Bascom and Elizabeth Clayton Lasater; and her sister, Eva Lasater.

Survivors include cousins, Dewayne and Judy Hooper, Patsy Carroll, Brad Evans, Max and Bobbie Jean Clayton, Dale and Donna Evans and Wendell and Jean Clayton all of Cleveland and Bill and Vicki Evans of Nashville; special friends, Elbert and Alma Ruth Schrader of Cleveland, Derrick Moore of Louisville, KY and Stephen Lautner and Darry Martin of Atlanta.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 19, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas E. Leland, Senior Pastor University Baptist Church in Charlottesville, VA officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, December 19 at the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
