Michael Byrd “Freebyrd”, 53, of Chickamauga, died on Sunday, February 3, 2013.  

He was a lifelong resident of North Georgia, was of the Christian faith, and his passions in life were his family, fishing, camping, traveling, and working with his hands on many different projects.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Byrd, Sr. and Kathleen Byrd; sister, Ruth Ellinger; and brother, Lester Byrd, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Melodie Byrd; stepchildren, Jessie Doyle and Angel Doyle of Ringgold, Jeromy Smith and Michael Gattie, both of Chickamauga; brothers, Clarence and Artie Byrd, both of Flintstone; sisters, Charlotte Guinn of Chickamauga, Marilyn Davis of Chickamauga, Angela Millican of Flintstone, and Lorene Morris of Flintstone; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Old Lookout Cemetery with Reverend Steve Ellinger and Brother Chris Millican officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 5-8 p.m., and Thursday, Feb. 7, from 1-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
