Lee University’s Unity Dance Troupe will present The Veil: The Story of Creation Friday and Saturday in the Dixon Center on Lee’s campus.

The Veil, directed and choreographed by Lee senior Alexis Ziarkowski, is an interpretive story about creation seen through God’s eyes. Ms. Ziarkowski has been hoping to tell the story of creation since she was 14-years-old. The story is one of redemption, a grand narrative that focuses on God’s plan to bring His children home.

A performance in three acts, The Veil will feature 65 dancers and several selections by composer Thomas Bergersen.

Founded by Ms. Ziarkowski in 2010, Unity Dance Troupe became an official club at Lee in 2012. The dance members incorporate jazz, contemporary, ballet, modern and hip-hop styles into their choreography. Their passionate performances are driven by a desire to worship and serve God as well as minister to others through their movement.

“I started Unity as a dance ministry because I felt that a lot of people love to dance but they think they can’t. It was my goal to show people that they had it in them to dance,” Ms. Ziarkowski said.

The Veil has been in the works since Ms. Ziarkowski first suggested the idea in the spring of 2012, with a leadership team being chosen in June to help organize and choreograph the show.

“It was wonderful to be a part of this production,” said Unity member Emily Boccarossa. “Alexis' joy just rubbed off on us, and it comes through each dance. I can see the love of God shining through the choreography as we prepare for the show.”

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
