Dobbs, Claude Brooks "CB"

Retired Lieutenant Colonel In The Air Force Worked Many Years At Provident

  • Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Claude Brooks “CB” Dobbs, 89, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 surrounded by the family he loved so well.

An excellent golfer - he shot his age over 100 times between the ages of 68 and 81 - a pilot, and a singer and appreciator of music, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of a life well lived.

He could never pass a river without a second look, having worked as a boy alongside his father on steamboat trips up and down the Tennessee River. A longtime member of First Christian Church in Chattanooga, CB was a regular in the choir for many years, and a man whose faith was practical and real.

After serving his country in England, Newfoundland, and Greenland during World War II and subsequently in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, he retired as a lieutenant colonel after 41 years of service. He worked for many years at the former Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company, where he served as a pension and investments expert.

CB Dobbs was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ruth Lasley Dobbs and his parents, Claude and Leota Jones Dobbs.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Kerr Dobbs; his children, Gwendolyn Gail Dobbs, Jennifer Dobbs Hill, and Wesley Brooks Dobbs; grandchildren, Pendell Meyers III, Shannon Joiner, Courtney Cummins (and husband Seth Cummins); and great-grandchildren, Acelynn Bassett, Xander Cummins, and Ethan Cummins.

Rest well father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend – something of you remains here in every current of the river and in all the members of the family you led and loved.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 21, at First Christian Church, 650 McCallie Ave. in Chattanooga, followed by funeral services at noon.

Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be given to the First Christian Church Organ Maintenance Fund, Hospice of Chattanooga, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation Services; 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343, 423 531-3975.
