Don R. Jordan, of Hixson, died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. He was 85.

Don was born in Birmingham, AL, on June 13, 1928. He was a 1946 graduate of Jefferson County High School and a 1951 graduate of Howard College (Samford University). Don began his insurance career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and then became a regional manager for Boston Insurance Group. He served as Production superintendent of Continental Insurance. Upon moving to Chattanooga, he became executive vice president of AGA. Don then became president/owner of Associated X/S Underwriters.

Don’s professional accomplishments include: board of directors of Insurors of Chattanooga; president of Insurors of Chattanooga; first committee chairman of Accord; board of directors of Insurors of Tennessee; 1987 president of Insurors of Tennessee; state national director of the Independent Insurance Agents of America; contributor in the development of AMS Users Group, board of directors of AMS Users Group; fifth president of the AMS Users Group; contributor in the development of Ins Bank.

Don served as 1986 president of Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce. He was the president of Chattanooga Area Safety Council in 1988. He served on the board of directors for: Heart Association, United Way, Metropolitan Community Council, and Chattanooga State Technical Community College.

Don was currently a member of Hixson United Methodist Church. He was a long time member of Signal Mountain Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School superintendent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Lindsey Jordan and sons, Stan and Stephen Jordan.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Jordan; daughter, Debbie Grant (Jim); daughter-in-law, Barbara Jordan; five grandchildren, Jason Jordan, Noble Grant (Beth), Jordan Leigh Young (Cy), Lindsey Jordan, and Taylor Jordan; two great-grandchildren, Emma Jordan and Reese Grant. 

The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the funeral home with Paul Longmire officiating eulogy by Terry McElven. Interment will follow to Lakewood East Cemetery

Pallbearers are Jim Grant, Noble Grant, Robert Hookey, Terry McElven, Rick Reddick, and Cy Young. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
