The Cleveland State Cougar baseball team is playing for the region championship.
Cleveland State finished off Chattanooga State winning 9-4, then moved on to defeat Motlow State in the semi-finals 10-6.
The Cougars were up 7-2 against the Tigers before a rain delay postponed their game finishing up the following day.
Andrew Kribbs (6-4) earned the victory pitching six innings allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Cannon Stafford went 2-3 homering, scoring three times, driving in two and walking twice.
Bryson Trammell was 3-4 also driving in two and scoring twice.
The Cougars didn't have much time for celebration after the win playing their semi-final game against Motlow State about half an hour after their win over Chattanooga State.
Cleveland State didn't waste much time putting five runs on the board in the bottom of the first and three more in the second.
Stafford homered again plating another two runs. Trammell also hit one over the fence in this one putting together another three hit game adding two doubles and three more RBI.
Cooper Casteel (6-2) picked up the win going six innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking four.
After losing their first game of the double elimination region tournament, the Cougars have won their way through the loser's bracket making it to the championship round.
Cleveland State will play Dyersburg State with a first pitch scheduled for Friday, May 10 at 12:00 p.m. eastern/11:00 a.m. central time. A Cougars loss makes the Eagles the champions, but if the Cougars pull out a win in game one, there will be a second winner take all game between the two teams right after for the region championship.
