Chattanooga Red Wolves Shutout 4-0 At South Georgia Tormenta

  • Saturday, May 18, 2024
The Chattanooga Red Wolves SC played their first road game since April 13th against South Georgia Tormenta in Statesboro. Injury-riddled Chattanooga would go into the match without leading scorer Ropapa Mensah, midfielders Lucas Coutinho, Jonny Felipe and Omar Gomez, captain Ualefi Dos Reis and defender Richard Renteria. The night began with an evenly matched first half ending with a one goal lead for the home team. South Georgia surged ahead in the second half, scoring three goals in 15 minutes to add to their total for a 4-0 final score.
Chattanooga will host the second and final meeting between the two sides on June 22nd.

Both sides traded shots early with Mayele Malango and Omar Hernandez collecting the first and second for the Red Wolves. Tormenta, however, would find better luck with their third shot of the match finding the back of the net giving the home side a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the match.

In the second half, Chattanooga made an early substitution into the second half as Chevone Marsh came on for Leopoldo Hernandez. Tormenta continued to threaten as Chattanooga worked to build a comeback and the home side would find the back of the net twice in quick succession with goals in the 59th and 63rd minutes to take a 3-0 lead.

Stefan Cvetanovic and Yahir Paez entered the match for Stefan Lukic and Omar Hernandez, respectively, to ignite the Red Wolves offense. Cvetanovic had a blocked shot shortly after coming on and Paez had a run into the box but ran out of room before he could get the shot off.

On the other side, Tormenta added their fourth and final goal of the match in the 74th minute, giving them a 4-0 lead. Chattanooga’s later chances included a hard shot by Declan Watters that went just wide of the net and an attempt by Chevone Marsh that went over the crossbar. After two minutes of stoppage time, the final whistle blew giving Tormenta the shutout victory at home.
The Chattanooga Red Wolves will return to CHI Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 25th for the third round of the USL Jägermeister Cup against Lexington SC, featuring post match fireworks. Tickets are on sale now including the Red White & Brews ticket package that include one general admission ticket and two hard seltzer vouchers for $22.00 are available.
