Henrietta Tiller Griffin
Henrietta Tiller Griffin was called home to Glory Land on Friday evening, July 8, 2025, while at her earthly home surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
Henrietta lived a life rooted in faith, devoted to our Savior, and guided by His Holy Word. She was born March 2, 1936, in Chattanooga, a daughter of the late James Lewis and Annie Bell Lee Worthy. Others who preceded her in death were her husband, Eli Griffin; daughter, Ellen Diane Brown, and brother James O. Worthy.
She was a faithful and dedicated member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained faithful in service and attendance until her failing health. In earlier years, she was actively engaged in the Culinary, Sisterhood, and Usher Ministries. While the “old” Orchard Knob was pledging to raise funds for the building of the new church, Henrietta thought of ways she could help. She was a talented and skilled cook and used these skills to bake cakes and pies to raise money for the “present” church building fund. She was employed in the cafeteria at Riverside High School and Erlanger Hospital, from which she retired. Henrietta loved dressing in colorful clothing. She always looked beautiful in whatever she wore. During her high school years, her passion was basketball; in fact, she was a star player on the team. After high school, she maintained that passion by indulging herself in watching all levels of basketball on TV. Henrietta enjoyed music, game shows, watching OKMBC on TV, traveling, and spending time with family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren.
Precious memories remain with her two sons, Odell (Claudette) Tiller and Alan (Rosalyn) Tiller both of Chattanooga, TN; sister, Rosetta Stegall of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Ebony (George) Shropshire, Rasheem McCray, Bianca Tiller all of Chattanooga, TN, and Taurus (Iris) Hinton of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren, Iyanna Brayson, DiAshia Shropshire, Rasheem McCray, Jr., and Londynn Green all of Chattanooga, TN, Tyree Hinton and Taylor Hinton of Knoxville, TN; three great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will begin at 11 a.m. until the hour of the service at noon, on Thursday, July 17, at Orchard Knob Baptist Church, 1734 East 3rd Street.
Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.
