Delores Jean Hartman Von Canon, “Lois," was a long time resident of Lookout and Signal Mountains. She was born on June 26th,1939  in Winston Salem, N.C. She moved with her family to Chattanooga as a teenager. She graduated from Chattanooga City High School in 1957. While at City High School she modeled for Lovemans and participated in the Miss Chattanooga Pageant. She attended University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she was elected Barn Warming Queen.  In 1960 Lois married Dr. Charles Hunter Von Canon and has three children, Catherine Graham Von Canon Outten, Charles Hunter Von Canon II and Valerie Marie Von Canon Melcher.

Lois is survived by her mother, Ilene B. Hartman of Sarasota, Fl., her sisters, Judy Hartman Setliffe of Knoxville and Kimberly Hartman James of Sarasota, Fl., as well as her grandchildren Thorne Melcher, Forte Melcher, Joseph Outten, Miller Outten, Canon Outten, Maryelise Outten, Madelyn Von Canon, and Lillie Von Canon. 

She was predeceased by her father, Warren G. Hartman.  

She was a member of the Junior League of Chattanooga where her focus was the Bargain Mart and helping children at the Pediatric Cerebral Palsy Foundation, now a part of Orange Grove. She participated in the Junior League Follies. She loved playing tennis at the Fairyland Club. She was a member of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church and at one point was very active with the Women of the Church. For a number of years she was the head registrar of the voter registration office of Dade County, and worked at the polls on voting day.

Lois passed away on Jan. 28, 2014 in the company of her family, after a brief illness.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Feb. 1, at 5 p.m. at Brow Lake Club House, Brow Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga., 37350. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. at Brow Lake Club House.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to St. Jude's Hospital or Children’s Hospital Foundation at Erlanger Medical Center
