As part of the continuing outreach efforts for the Going Respectfully Against Addictive Behaviors Coalition’s 31 Days Of Prevention, on Oct. 16, they will host a screening of the Anonymous People.
The Anonymous People is about the 23.5 million Americans living in long-term recovery, and the emerging public recovery movement.
The film will be shown at George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center on the Cleveland State Community campus on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Each screening will be followed by a brief panel discussion by local healthcare providers and those in recovery. In addition, area service providers will have booths available with information of area services. There is no cost to attend these screenings.
The Anonymous People screening is sponsored by the GRAAB Coalition, Cleveland State Foundations Board, and the Office of Special Programs. The screening features interviews with over 30 people among the millions in long-term recovery from drug and alcohol addiction who are making the decision to speak out publicly.
The Anonymous People shines a light on prominent people who themselves are not very anonymous, but are in fact living publicly as people in long-term recovery themselves. Among the film’s stars are: award-winning actress Kristen Johnston; former NBA star Chris Herren; Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner; former congressman Patrick Kennedy; veteran news anchor Laurie Dhue; and Tom Coderre, chief of staff to Rhode Island Senate president. They have chosen to come out with their recovery stories in an effort to counter the existing public perception of others undergoing similar struggles.
The mission of the GRAAB Coalition is to bring together concerned individuals, members of the community, and service providers to facilitate lowering illicit and addictive use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in Bradley County by providing effective education, recovery, and support for youth, families, and the community.
