Ruth McCollum
Ruth Broome McCollum, 94 of Chattanooga, died on Friday, November 14, 2014.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1919, to the late Arthur and Sally Broome. Ruth taught second grade for 39 years, 10 years with Trion City Schools in Trion, Ga., and 29 years in Aiken County Schools in North Augusta, S.C. She was a member of the South Carolina Education Association. Ruth was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Augusta, Ga., where she was a former Sunday School teacher and was very active with the WMU and Missions organizations. She moved to Chattanooga in January 2012 after the death of her husband, Thomas C. McCollum. Ruth was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church in Chattanooga.
Survivors include her daughter, Betsy (Scott) Newman of Chattanooga.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, in West Hill Cemetery, Trion, Ga., with Kent McCrary, R.D. McCrary, John Steele, Jimmy McCollum, Jon Meier and Gary Newman serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ridgedale Baptist Church, Attn: Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
