Hoyt T. Murray, Jr., 88, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, November 2, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Born in Georgetown, Tn., he moved to Chattanooga at the age of six and became a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area.  Hoyt was a 1944 graduate of Hixson High School. He was a World War II Army veteran where he served in the Pacific Theater as a staff sergeant in the 7th Infantry Division – 57th Field Artillery.   

Returning to Hixson after the war, he married Marie Jones, to whom he was married for 56 years.  He graduated from Edmonson School of Business.  Hoyt retired from TVA with over 32 years of service with Power Systems Operations. He loved to travel with his wife and they visited all 50 states, Europe, Canada and Mexico. Hoyt was an avid golfer, held a membership at Brainerd Golf Club since 1982 and shot eight holes in one. He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and the Fellowship Class since 1953. Hoyt enjoyed playing amateur baseball and softball, coaching Red Bank Dixie Youth Baseball, and bowling in TVA leagues. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Jones Murray; son, David Murray; son-in-law, Dave Sachleben; brothers, T. J. and C. W. Murray.

Hoyt is survived by his son, Michael Murray; daughter, Lisa (Dan) Streich; daughter-in-law, Martha (Jan) Shaw; five grandchildren, Jason, Rachel, Megan Murray, Chad and Jake Sachleben; siblings, Ed (Mary Sue) Murray, Adeline (Jim) Grayson, Fred (Jeanne) Murray and Pat Jackson; several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of Hoyt’s life will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home with Reverend Bill Harvey officiating.  Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Hoyt’s name to Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, Tn. 37415. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
