Stout Back In Front Of Judge On Possible Probation Violation After Urinating On Neighbor's Car

  • Monday, December 1, 2014

Myles Kensey Stout, who was given a six-year sentence in 2012 for the killing of 18-year-old Myles Compton, was back in front of Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman on Monday for a possible probation violation.

The hearing was postponed until Jan. 12.

In an incident Oct. 30, police said they found Stout urinating on a car at 5500 Jewell Road.

Police said Stout "made no attempt to hide himself from the public while he was urinating all over the car." An officer said Stout smelled strongly of alcohol.

Stout said it was his neighbor's car.

He was charged with public intoxication and indecent exposure.

In the murder case, Stout was ordered to serve two years in state prison and four years suspended. The judge said Stout will be on active probation for 12 years after serving the two years. He said if he got into any more trouble he would have to then serve the four years.

The sentencing ranges were 2-4 years and 1-2 years. He was given the maximum for each and they will be served consecutively.

Stout had faced 15-25 years in prison if convicted of second-degree murder as charged.

Stout was also ordered to pay $21,998 to the Compton family to cover funeral and burial expenses. The Comptons filed a civil lawsuit over the incident.

Stout was convicted of the lesser charges of reckless homicide and reckless endangerment in the March 9, 2011, slaying at an upscale home in Mountain Shadows in East Brainerd.

Stout did not testify at the trial, but he later read a statement in which he said he thought the gun was not loaded when he pointed it at Compton and pulled the trigger. He said, "I had no idea that gun was loaded. If I had, I never would have pulled the trigger and killed my friend, Myles Compton. I will try to make up for my actions for the rest of my life."

Stout, who was 20 at the time of the fatal shooting, gave his statement after he was excoriated by the parents of the victim.

Cheryl Compton called him an arrogant bully and Jesse Compton said he was a liar and a coward.

A probation officer earlier said Stout had failed to pay the minimum monthly amount and did not seem to understand why he had to make payments to the victims family. He later pledged to make the payments.
