Eddie Lamar Simpson, Sr., 58, of Fort Oglethorpe died on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. 

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga & North Georgia areas and was of the Church of God faith. He had worked as a mechanic for his entire life having owned and operated Battlefield Garage and then was employed with Otasco Auto. He loved racing, coaching baseball, watching the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed Alabama Football. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Edward and Dortha Louise Simpson; daughter, Mary Simpson and sister, Schlinda Johnson.

Survivors include his son, Eddie "Lamar" Simpson, Jr. of Chickamauga; brothers, Darrel Simpson and David Simpson, both of Fort Oglethorpe; seven grandchildren, Calvin, Autumn, Patience, Tyler, Jaxson, Kaitlynn and Easton; special nephew, Jason Johnson and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Fort Oglethorpe chapel with Brother Dave Wadell officiating. Burial will be private. 

The family will begin receiving friends after 5 p.m. on Thursday, all day Friday, and prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
