Billy R. Stone died after a battle with ALS, on April 14, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Stone was born Nov. 17, 1934. He was the son of the late Hubert Earl Stone and Mary Lou Owens Stone of Olive Branch, Ms.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Wilson Stone; son, Dennis R. Stone and wife Karen of Nashville; daughter, Deborah Stone Hasty of St. Petersburg, Fl.; a grandson, Connor H. Stone of Nashville; a granddaughter, Rachel A. Stone of Nashville; two sisters, Louella Stone McElroy of Olive Branch, Ms., and Sarah Helen Stone Barrentine of Bartlett, Tn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stone had made his home in northwest Georgia for 40 years before moving to Johnson City, Tn. in 1996.

He spent 50 years in the manufacture of electric heating equipment. He worked with his father-in-law, Herman E. Wilson, at Wilson Electric Furnaces in Rossville, for 25 years and for the Redi Division of TPI Inc. in Chattanooga, and Johnson City for 25 years. He and his wife were co-owners of Stay N Play Nursery School in Rossville, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Bill”.

Mr. Stone was a loving husband, father and humanitarian. He was of the Christian faith and served the Lord faithfully.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years.  He was a fan of country music, enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball and UGA football.  He served as a cub scout master and as president of the Gordon Lee High School Band Boosters in Chickamauga. He was an active gardener and took pride in his landscaping.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and aides, at Amedisys Hospice in Elizabethton. To Rusty Mitchell and all the volunteers at Amedisys and a special thanks to Cindy Sproles for her love and care for Mr. Stone during his final days.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 6–8 p.m. at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City on Friday, April 18.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 19, at the Lane Funeral Home South Crest Chapel in Rossville, at 2 p.m. Family will receive friends prior to service 12-2 p.m. on Saturday. The procession to the Wilson Cemetery will follow for graveside committal. Dewayne Baird will be officiating.
