Notre Dame Graduate Holds Pole Vaulting Record

Luke Terence Duffy, 23, of Chattanooga died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.  

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 6099. He graduated from Notre Dame High School and attended Chattanooga State, Pellisippi State and UTC. A lifelong scout, Luke had earned the rank of Eagle Scout and holds the Notre Dame pole vaulting record as well as the regional district record.  He loved God, his family and the great outdoors, especially sunsets.  He enjoyed rafting, hiking, skiing, backpacking and was a lover of animals.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Leanna Duffy; grandmother, Angela Walter Whitworth and great-grandmother, Mary Ermine Whitworth.

Survivors include his parents, Terence and Claudia Duffy; two sisters, Julianne Duffy and Carly Duffy; nephew, Cole McDonald; grandparents, James Duffy, Shirley Duffy and Raymond Whitworth; the special love of his life, Feba Chacko; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research.
