Walter D. Schultz, of Hixson, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014.  He was 96 years old.

 

Walter in his earlier years was a lumberjack, railroad worker and a field hand.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army and Air Corps in the Philippines.  Walter received his BS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota.  He was a supervisor and plant manager for Quaker Oaks for 38 years.  Walter was a Free Mason of 50 years; past District Governor of the Lions Club; past board of director for the Boy Scouts of America; and past director for the Chattanooga Federal and Loan Association.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga.  Walter enjoyed being a farmer, cattle rancher and loved reading about the American West. 

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lorraine Goats Schultz; parents, Robert and Emma Starkweather Schultz and two brothers and four sisters.

 

Walter is survived by his sons, Lee Schultz of Hixson and Steve Schultz of Carrollton, TX; brother-in-law Bob Brooks and his wife Joyce and many nieces and nephews. 

 

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, and 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

 

A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the North Chapel.

 

Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. EST on Thursday at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, Tennessee.
