Boone, Jessie "Jacky" Verene (Cleveland)

Jessie “Jacky” Verene Boone, 90, of Cleveland, TN, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015, in a local health care facility.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester J. Boone; her father, Jessie Loui McCrary; her mother, Connie M. Walker McCrary; her infant sister, Eilene McCrary; and her infant grandson, John Boone.

Jacky was born on November 19, 1924, in Etowah County, AL. She grew up in Gadsden, AL, where she graduated from Etowah High School. She married Lester J. Boone in 1950, and they moved to Detroit, MI a short time later. Jacky lived in Michigan for more than 50 years. She was a retired purchasing agent from Osborne Transformer, Fraser, MI. 

Jacky was an active member of The Tabernacle Church of Warren, MI, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, greeter, and in the benevolence ministry. She enjoyed excursions with the senior adults. After moving to Cleveland in 2002, she was blessed to be under the pastoral care of Reverend Wendell Smith and his wife Oneta.

Jacky testified “I love to make things with my hands.” That was evidenced by her long-time interest in sewing, crocheting, and quilting. During the seven years she lived at Morningside of Cleveland, she crocheted many baby blankets for the New Hope Pregnancy Care Center. She was admired for her optimism and winning personality.

Jacky is survived by three sons and a daughter, Horace Boone (Lisa), Benton Harbor, MI, Jerome Boone (Sandi), Cleveland, Michael Dennis Boone (Beckie), Nashville and Terri Donaldson (John), Grosse Pointe Park, MI; ten grandchildren, Jerri Ann Lee, Betty Jo Rhoten (Don), Joel Boone, Michael Boone (April), Mark Boone (Anne), Michael Smith (Patti), Patti Shales (William), Darla Gallentine (Bill), David Boone (Danielle); several great-grandchildren; step-sister, JoAnn Blocker (Johnny); and two sisters-in-law, Louise Medders and Esther McGinnis.

The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Saturday, January 31, at 1 p.m. from the Resurrection Funeral Home Chapel, 40800 Hayes Road, Clinton Township, MI. Drs. Horace Boone and Jerome Boone will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Clinton with family and friends serving as casket bearers.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, January 31 at the Resurrection Funeral Home just before the service.

The North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes has charge of local arrangements.
