William Crandel McNabb, 101, of Dunlap, Tennessee, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

The son of the late Thomas Crawford and Florence Almeda Knight McNabb, he was a graduate of Grundy County High School where he drove the school bus while in high school.  During World War II, he worked for Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga.  He lived for many years in Jasper, TN, and taught Auto Mechanics at Marion and Grundy County High Schools for several years.  He was also a long-time member and former elder of both the Jasper and Kimball Church of Christ.  He had received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the South Pittsburg Rotary Club, was a member and was a Past-President of the Jasper Lions Club.

He was also an avid traveler and camper.  He made two trips to Alaska, one of which took him 118 miles above the Arctic Circle.

He was heavily involved in Scouting for over 50 years, having attended two National Jamborees, earned the Wood Badge, Scouter’s Key, Scouter’s Award, God & Country Award, and was conferred  the highest honor for volunteer leaders – the Silver Beaver Award.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Ethleen Sitz McNabb; three brothers, Marion, Harris David, and Thomas McNabb; sister, Marvagene Kump.

Survivors include his children, Lanny (Janie) McNabb of Signal Mt., TN and Janice (David) McAnally of Dunlap, TN; six grandchildren, Jim (Lisa) McNabb of Franklin, TN, Scott (Sara) McNabb of Roswell, GA, Nathan McNabb of Atlanta, GA, Amy Lamitina of Lawrenceville, GA, David (Cathy) McAnally, Jr. of Alpharetta, GA, and Casey (Kellee) McAnally of Dunlap, TN; sister, Charlotte Pattie of Punta Gorda, FL; step-grandchildren, Meg (Steve) Bandy, Anna (Talley) Clower, J. B. (Wendy) Glass and C.C. (Bobby) Edwards; ten great-grandchildren, Chase McAnally, Chandler McAnally, Harrison McAnally, Zack McAnally, Hayley McAnally, Ian McNabb, Jake McNabb, Charlie McNabb, Grace McNabb and Jessica McNabb; thirteen step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, Jan. 30, from 6-8 p.m. CT at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper, and on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 1-2 p,m, CT at the Church of Christ in Kimball.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ in Kimball, TN at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, Jan. 31. Interment will follow at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Scouts of Troop 5, all former scouts of Troup 112 in Jasper, and Mr. McNabb’s great-grandsons, Eagle Scout Chandler McAnally, Star Scout Harrison McAnally and Life Scout Chase McAnally.
