Cortez Sims
One day after being added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 Most Wanted list, Cortez Sims has been arrested in Knoxville.
Sims, 17, was taken into custody today at 3423 Sevier Ave. in Knoxville. The arrest was a joint effort with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Chattanooga Police Department. Sims was added to the Top 10 list Thursday.
Through a collaborative effort with CPD Fugitive, Intelligence, Crime Suppression, Chattanooga Housing Police, USMS, TBI, and Catoosa County, CPD worked around the clock using all resources available and exhausted all leads until CPD learned that Sims was hiding out in Knoxville.
On Friday morning, the CPD requested assistance from the USMS and Knoxville Police Department.
While the CPD was en route to Knoxville, Sims walked out of the house in which the Knoxville Police Department and USMS were conducting surveillance. They took him into custody without incident around 11:35 a.m. At this time, it is unclear why Sims fled to Knoxville.
Sims is being transported to the Chattanooga Police Department and will be booked at a later time.
Sims was wanted by the Chattanooga Police Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service on charges of first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Sims has been charged with the Wednesday murder of Talitha Bowman and the shootings of Marcell Christopher, Bianca Horton and one-year-old Zoey Horton at 773 W. Main Street in Chattanooga.
Sims is an African American male with black hair and black eyes. He is 5'11", and weighs 165 pounds. He has a tattoo on his chest that reads “Loyalty First”. Sims is a member of the Athens Park Bloods and was considered armed and dangerous.
