Lee To Host Honor Band 2015

  • Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Eighty-five high school students representing 31 schools from five states will arrive at Lee University for Honor Band 2015 on Thursday.  This is the 15th year that Lee has hosted the Honor Band, which will be conducted by Dr. James Lambrecht.  Dr. Lambrecht is director of bands and professor of trumpet at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

The students were selected for the Honor Band based upon information submitted by the students in addition to recommendations from their individual band directors.  The students will begin rehearsing Thursday evening, and rehearsals will continue through Saturday morning.  The weekend will culminate with a concert given by the Honor Band on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Conn Center.

“This is always a great event for our instrumental music department,” said Winona Holsinger, director of instrumental projects at Lee.  “The students that attend are very excited about making music.  We hope that the public will attend both the Friday night and Saturday afternoon concerts.”

Lee University’s Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble will present a concert for the Honor Band participants on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

The performances are free, and the public is invited to attend both concerts. For more information about the Honor Band or Lee’s School of Music, call 614-8263 or email wholsinger@leeuniversity.edu.
