Adelene Hopkins Woodworth, known by many as Lynn, 87, died early Monday morning, February 9, 2015.

Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, John (Jack) Kennedy Woodworth and her parents, Earle Thomas Hopkins and Pearl Tyler Hopkins.

A native of Salisbury, Md., Lynn and her husband, Jack, met at Duke University where she was a graduate student in economics. They moved to Chattanooga in 1953. Prior to attending Duke, she graduated summa cum laude from McDaniel College.

Lynn was active in founding Allied Arts (now called ArtsBuild). She was among its first members as it emerged from the Chattanooga Arts Council. She chaired an annual campaign there and was a chairman of the board of Allied Arts. She gave her time and expertise to the Hunter Museum, United Way, and was a board member of the Chattanooga Symphony as well as a member and president of the Symphony Guild. She was on the board of the Boys’ Club, Chattanooga Regional History Museum, Chattanooga Nature Center, and Reflection Riding, where she served as president. She is one of only two persons to be honored as a “life member” of Reflection Riding’s board.  She was also honored as a Chattanooga Woman of Distinction by the American Lung Association. She was the former chairwoman of the Tennessee Humanities Council and has been president of several organizations, including the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga.

She is survived by her son, John Kennedy Woodworth, Jr.; daughter, Anne Tyler Woodworth, Washington, DC; and sister, Charlotte Hopkins Brady, New Bern, NC.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12.

The family will receive friends from 2–3 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
