A fire damaged a home in Red Bank on Friday afternoon. The house reignited late Friday night and appeared to be a total loss.

At 3:30 p.m., a 911 call was made reporting a house fire at 117 Narragansette Drive in the Red Bank area.

The Red Bank Fire Department responded, reporting heavy smoke pouring out the front door and basement window. Red Bank fire officials requested a mutual aid response for additional manpower. The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to assist Red Bank.

According to the homeowner, Chad Watkins, he had just arrived home to meet a roof repairman to fix his roof leak. When he opened the front door, smoke came pouring out. Mr. Watkins immediately called 911 and ran around back to rescue his two Great Danes which were housed in the basement. The dogs were unharmed. While rescuing the dogs, he noticed a large fire surrounding the furnace.

Mr. Watkins explained he has had problems with his furnace in the past, but Red Bank fire investigators will determine the actual cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Initial damages were reported at $70,000.

Mr. Watkins is insured and will be staying with family.
