Joseph Emery

Joseph W. Emery, 93, of Hixson, died on Thursday, April 9, 2015.

He lived a long and full life and was at home cooking, shopping, feeding the birds and tending his yard until the month before his passing. He was a strong man, a product of the Depression and a member of our Greatest Generation. Joseph was born August 21, 1921, growing up on a farm near St. Elmo. His love of seeing things grow never left him. He served with honor in the U.S. Navy during World War II, spending a great deal of time in the South Pacific and sailing the Caribbean and North Atlantic. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1964 after 20 years of service.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Eva Emery; eight brothers and sisters; an infant son, Joseph Emery, Jr. and two wonderful wives, Bertha Martin Emery and Gladys Turner Emery.

He is survived by his two loving children, Steve Emery and Cherri Hobbs (Michael). He was so proud of his three grandchildren, Joseph Hobbs, Katie Hobbs Holtkamp (Garth) and Christi Emery Cooper (Keith). He loved his five great grandchildren, Sierra, Samson, Javen, Greta and Baby Violet. He is also survived by his stepchildren, step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. We love you Dad and will miss you always.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 14, at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Carl Hunsucker officiating. Burial will follow at National Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
