Clara Louise Henderson of Chattanooga died on Mother's Day, Sunday May 10, 2015.

She was born May 7, 1927 in the St. Elmo area to the late Marion Francis and Ida Texas Perkins.

She was known by many names, "Mama Lou" to her beloved grandchildren, "Lucy" to many of her close family members, simply "Lou" to her many friends and Mrs. Henderson to the scores of elementary school students that she taught in over 30 years as a teacher in the Chattanooga School system and at North Rossville Elementary.

She received the teacher of the year award several times from the schools in which she taught and played the piano in countless school plays and ceremonies. She remained active in her retirement as one of the "boutique ladies" at Stein-Mart, a dancer in the Chattanooga Golden Girls troupe and as an active member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority, where she served as a chairperson for their annual fashion show for many years. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class at Ridgedale Baptist Church.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, teacher and friend. She never met someone without a smile and a kind word and will be dearly missed by those who had the good fortune to know her.

Her husband, Charles Daniel "Dan" Henderson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, James Daniel Henderson and his wife, Ashlie, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Will, Meg and Charlie Henderson of Chattanooga, one brother, Charles Edwin Perkins (Sylvia) of Jacksonville, Fl.; nieces, Amy Perkins Wagner (Barry) and Kelly Perkins Lawrence (Joe) of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 15, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 14, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers sorority, Attn: Janie Harvey P.O. Box 326, Signal Mountain, Tn. 37377 to be applied to a scholarship for promising teachers from UTC.

Arrangements are by the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, crematory and Florist, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
