A Memorial Day Reflection

I wish I could find that combination of words that would capture an inclusive meaning of Memorial Day.  I have attended many Memorial Day programs at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, so many that now they have merged into one memory.  But what stands out is that each year there are more friends and veterans to visit.  Some gave their all many years ago.  And many others only found peace years after their service.  Every year some join their brothers in that eternal peace.
For those like me that have seen the exhilaration, emotional highs associated with facing the enemy and the lows over the loss of friends in combat, we have been there.  We know the sacrifice. We know that for the grace of God someone could be visiting our final resting place.  We must also honor those that serve today for they stepped out ahead to protect our country.
So take an honest moment for sincere reflection on the meaning of Memorial Day.  Know that they gave their all for you.
