Cleveland and state officials payed a courtesy call to the Marine recruiting station in Cleveland on Monday. Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland told the Marines on station that the citizens of Cleveland support them and extend sympathy for their brothers lost in the tragic events in Chattanooga.
The mayor was accompanied by City Councilman Dale Hughes, in whose district the career center is located.
State Rep. Kevin Brooks presented to the station a U.S. flag that had flown over the state Capitol in Nashville.
Interim Cleveland Police Chief Mark Gibson offered his department's full resources to the recruiters.
The center is under heavy police guard since reopening.
When Bradley Square Mall had reports of possible shots fired Thursday, Cleveland police escorted national guard recruiters to their vehicles.
Rep. Brooks assured the service personnel that Clevelanders and Tennesseans had them in their prayers for their safety.
"We all feel the loss of your brothers," Mayor Rowland, an Air Force veteran, told the troops.
Flowers had been left at the front door of the recruiting station.
