Golf Tournament To Be Held July 29 In Honor Of King Oehmig

  • Tuesday, July 21, 2015
A golf tournament is being held on July 29 in honor of The Rev. King Oehmig at The Course at Sewanee and Sweetens Cove Golf Club. After consulting with Mr. King's family, Habitat for Humanity and Metropolitan Ministries have been designated as recipients of a portion of the proceeds since King was especially dedicated to those organizations and missions. Sweetens and Sewanee intend on making this an annual event to continue in King's memory.

Mr. Oehmig was instrumental in the development of The Course at Sewanee, and was a mentor to the designer of Sweetens Cove -- which is on its way to being ranked as the #1 9-hole course in the U.S.

Officials said, "As a former Baylor School golf coach, King and his family have done so much for the Chattanooga golf community, and Sweetens and Sewanee would like to continue to celebrate the impact that King had on so many members of our community."

July 29 is also the USGA's "Play 9 Day" -- celebrating 9-hole courses across the country. Officials said, "We are trying to spread the word of this mid-week event and get as many registrants as possible to celebrate King as well as the unique experience of playing 9-hole courses."
