V. “Maxine” Deakins, 84, of Hixson, died on Saturday, August 1, 2015. 

She lived in the Falling Water community and was very active in Falling Water Baptist Church in the early years of her Christian life teaching the children.  For the past several years she has attended Red Bank Baptist Church.

Maxine graduated from Red Bank High School and Tennessee Temple University. After graduation, she spent nine years in West Africa as a missionary under Sudan Interior Missions.  After returning home she worked and retired from the Chattanooga Bicentennial Library.  She enjoyed bowling with the REA league for several years.  Maxine also enjoyed camping, gardening and her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Deakins; mothers, Mary and Ruby Deakins; brother, Herman Deakins.

Maxine is survived by a brother, Horace (Gelene) Deakins; sister, Anne (Chuck) Davis; nieces, Deanie (Louie) Prieto, Sherrie (Ron) McDaniel, DiAnne and DeLynn Deakins; nephews, Earl Ray and Larry Deakins.

Our very special thanks to her care givers, Jaye, Jonah and Tracy Smith, Beverly Richeson and the Hospice care givers, Angela, Jessica and Fadra who all gave her such loving care during her illness. 

The family will receive friends from 12-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. 

A celebration of life service will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Gloria Westerfield and Reverend Tommy Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park with Tracy Smith, Jonah Smith, Wayne Brown, Jeff Ott, Gene Jackson and Rick Davis serving as pallbearers. 

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maxine’s name to Falling Water Baptist Church, 523 Roberts Mill Road, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
