Janet Satterfield Spahr, 75, was born November 28, 1939, anddied on September 25, 2015 at her home after a long and courageous battle with ALS, surrounded by her loving husband and family.
She was born in Chattanooga to the late Aubrey Hartline Satterfield and Charles Oren Satterfield. She was a resident of Chattanooga most of her life, except when she lived in Taccoa, Ga., Chester County, Pa., and Mentone, Al.. She graduated from City High School in 1958.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon (Gus) Spahr; daughters, Jami (Tina) Lowery and Tonya McKissick; son, Brian Keith (Angie Moore) Lowery; grandchildren, Zach McKissick, Jade (John) Norris, and Justin Lowery; and many cousins, especially Elaine Holbrook and Guy Satterfield.
Janet remained close to many friends and classmates going back to grade school at Normal Park. She studied nursing and worked at many different challenging jobs throughout her lifetime. She was raised in the Baptist faith, but later was confirmed in the Episcopal religion. Janet loved the Vols and NASCAR and most of all, her family and friends. The family wants to acknowledge the kindness, compassion, and caring shown by the staff of Caris Healthcare, Continue Care, and our wonderful neighbors at Charleston Trace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the ALS Association, 607 Barton Ave, Chattanooga, Tn. 37405.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Lane Funeral Home and interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
