John David Jaynes
John David Jaynes, Sr., 90, of Hixson died on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at his home.
He was born June 17, 1925 in Florence, Al., to the late Arthur and Ollie Jaynes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jean Jones Jaynes; son, David Jaynes, Jr.; and a daughter Donna Jaynes Lassetter. He was a loving care giver to his wife during her lengthy illness.
He enjoyed telling jokes, drinking coffee and watching cowboy movies. He enjoyed fishing and was a master gardener. He loved to share the produce he raised with his many friends and family. Mr. Jaynes was employed by TVA for over 60 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 73 years. Mr. Jaynes was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army Engineers on Okinawa.
Survivors include his children, Janis Jaynes (David) Hutsell of Spring City, Tn.; Ellen Jaynes (Jeff) Copeland of Roanoke, Va.; Allen Jaynes of Jasper, Tn., and Sondra Jaynes Gagliardi of Flintstone, Ga.; daughter-in-law Lisa Jaynes; son-in-law, Will Lassetter. “Gran John” is leaving behind eight grandchildren, Dan Hickey, Andrea Hickey Hobbs, Christa Lassetter (David) French, Lauren Copeland (Mark) Benusa, Joseph Gagliardi, Gabrielle Gagliardi, Lauren Tate (Matt) Bernstein, and Joel Tate; great-grandchildren, Jake Cates, Ryan Hickey, Bella Costerisan, Jack Brady French, and Brooks French; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2016 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday.
