Covenant Wins Two USA South Volleyball Matches

The Covenant volleyball team stepped out of USA South play for a tri-match against Rhodes and Oglethorpe on Saturday in Atlanta. The Lady Scots avenged an early season loss to Rhodes with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23) victory over the Lynx before dispatching host Oglethorpe 3-0 (27-25, 25-13, 25-20).

Covenant moves to 14-11 overall with the victories.

Ginny Moore and Jessica Seehorn had 10 kills apiece to lead Covenant past Rhodes in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-23. 

Moore added a match-high 21 digs and two assisted blocks in the win, while Seehorn also had a double-double with 13 digs.
Schuyler Moore totaled 29 assists, eight digs and seven kills. Morgan Opgenorth chipped in six kills and three combined blocks with Emily Moore adding nine digs.

Covenant gained a first set victory by scoring seven of the final 10 points after the score was tied at 18. Ginny Moore and Schuyler Moore both had kills during the final stretch. In the second set, Covenant again pulled away late with an 8-2 run to end the frame after the score was knotted at 17 apiece. Ginny Moore had two kills during the stretch with Schuyler Moore and Allie Jakes adding one each.

In the third, Covenant got out to a 13-5 lead, but would have to stave off a late rally from the Lynx to complete the sweep. Seehorn's 10th kill ended the match giving the Lady Scots the win.

Elasha Williams had eight kills from Rhodes (9-10) with Hannah McCarty recording 18 assists.


In the day's second match, Ginny Moore tied a season-high with 18 kills to go along with 14 digs to help Covenant to another three-set victory (27-25, 25-13, 25-20).

Moore hit .350 and also had three assists in the victory. Hannah Harris accumulated 10 kills and four assisted blocks, while Opgenorth had eight kills, four digs and two block assists. Schuyler Moore recorded 31 assists with 11 digs and Hannah Stewart had 13 digs.

The first set saw extra points as Covenant rallied from a 25-24 deficit to score the final three and take the win. Ginny Moore had all three points, coming on consecutive kills, to lead the rally and give Covenant a 1-0 match lead.

In the second, Covenant broke open a close set midway through and built a 21-11 lead on an Opgenorth ace en route to a 25-13 win. In the third, Covenant rallied from a 15-10 deficit with a 10-1 run, aided by three more kills from Ginny Moore, to take a lead for good and go on to win 25-20.

Kaitlyn Woodruff had 11 kills for Oglethorpe (8-17), while Jordan Jones had 23 assists and Anna Rash 13 digs.
