Mildred Ford
Mildred "Dawkins" Ford, 95, of Harrison, went home to be with her Lord on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2016, surrounded by her loving family by her side after a lengthy illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. and Mamie Susan Dawkins, and her husband, Leon V. Ford. She was the last of her 11 siblings.
Mildred was a charter member of Savannah Bay Baptist Church. She enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, and working in her flowers and roses and cooking for her family.
A very special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga, especially to Maryann F. (nurse), Kim P. (CNA) and Jackie (social worker) for taking such good care of our mom, and all the others from the Hospice team.
She is survived by her daughters, Clara Lee (Jerry) Hughes, and Darlene (Ford) McLemore; one granddaughter, Susan (Lebron) Wingo and two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Sage Wingo; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service with her family and friends will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Savannah Bay Baptist Church, 8018 Georgetown Road, Ooltewah with Brother Randy Chestnutt and Brother Clay Lynch officiating. Interment will be in Hooker Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Hughes, Garrett Wingo, Mitch Ferguson, Bill Lee, Larry Pell, and Danny Whitt. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Savannah Bay Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Savannah Bay Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church again from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service.
Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
