UTC's Davis Named Top Defensive Lineman By HeroSports.com

  • Friday, December 9, 2016
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior defensive end Keionta Davis is piling up the postseason honors after capping off an outstanding career in 2016.  The two-time All-American and 2016 Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year was named the top defensive lineman in the FCS by HeroSports.com this week.

Davis led the Southern Conference with 10.5 sacks on the year.  He was part of a defensive unit that allowed just 19.6 points per game and 294 yard of total offense per game.
He finished with 11.5 tackles for loss, broke up seven passes and had seven hurries.  He also forced three fumbles and had a career-high 44 tackles as a senior.

"Davis has spent the last four seasons making plays for the Mocs defense on Saturdays, and soon we'll see him doing the same for a lucky NFL team on Sundays," the website wrote.

The Chattanooga native has already accepted an invitation to compete in the prestigious Reese's Senior Bowl and is expected to garner much more national recognition as more awards are announced.  He finished ninth in the voting for the FCS Player of the Year Award and is considered one of the top NFL prospects at the FCS Level.
