Man Stabs Whitfield County Woman, Then Steals Her Truck

  • Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Whitfield County authorities are investigating an incident where a woman was stabbed and then robbed of her truck.

The Whitfield 911 Center received a call on Tuesday, at 1:59 p.m. of a woman stabbed at her residence on Serena Way, off Tilton Road. Upon arrival, officers found Mayra Espitia with cut and stab wounds to her neck and other areas of her body. Ms. Espitia was transported to Hamilton Medical Center where she underwent surgery.

Investigators determined the Espitia family was attempting to sell a pick-up truck and had been advertising it for sale on Craig’s List. A person contacted them and advised he was interested and arrived at the Espitia residence around 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Espitia was at home alone at the time.

The suspect was brought there by a white female in a dark-colored passenger car. The woman stayed in the car while the man went in the house and started speaking with Mrs. Espitia about the truck. When Mrs. Espitia started walking him out the door to look at the truck the suspect pulled a knife and started stabbing and cutting Mrs. Espitia. The suspect then grabbed the keys and fled. He got in the truck and left at a high rate of speed. The woman in the car also left.

A look-out has been issued on the stolen truck. It is a white 2001 GMC Sonoma pick-up. The vehicle did not have a tag at the time it was taken. The suspect is described as a white male in his mid to late 40s. The investigation is continuing.
