Schimmer, Dolores Evelyn Hargas

Dolores Evelyn (nee Hargas) Schimmer died on April 27, 2016 at the Terrace on Mountain Creek Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her family and friends called her by her nickname, Galy. 

Born on Oct. 4, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., she lived in the Soulard neighborhood with her family. They were member of St. Lucas Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Schimmer; her parents, Michael and Anna Hargas; her brothers, John Hargas, Michael Hargas, William Hargas I, William Hargas II, and her sister, Olga Lavacki. 

She is survived by her son, Rev. Gary Schimmer, his wife, Priscilla; her granddaughter, Katie Emmons with her husband, Neal, and their children, Grace and Olivia; her grandson, Michael Schimmer and his wife, Liz; her nephew and nieces; and her brother-in-law, Charles Lavacki.

She worked at her parents’ tavern in Soulard, helped her sister at Steak City restaurant in downtown St. Louis in the 1960s and for many years she was a faithful employee of Globe Drug Store on Cherokee Street. She enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, playing bingo and caring for others. She had a strong faith and loving heart for her family and friends. 

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hixson, Tn., on Saturday, April 30, at 2:30 pm. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 1–2:30 p.m.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, May 3, from 11:15 a.m.–1:15 p.m. at John L. Ziegenheim & Sons Funeral Homes, 7027 Gravois Avenue, St. Lois, Mo. Burial and committal service will follow at 1:45 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
