South Chickamauga Creek Greenway Grand Opening Celebration Scheduled For This Week

  • Monday, April 4, 2016

A grand opening event is in place to celebrate the completion of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway. To mark the milestone, The Trust for Public Land will host a three-day event full of activities for the community to enjoy.

The festivities will kick off Thursday, with educational programs. Students from Hamilton County’s public and private schools as well as the home school community will be invited for self-guided educational tours of the area, where they will learn about the environment, wildlife and history of the region. A ticketed outdoor cocktail reception is scheduled for later that evening and will feature a nationally recognized guest speaker and comments from elected officials.

The following day, Trust for Public Land staff will visit neighboring businesses with information about the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway.

The three-day event will culminate with a day of family fun on Saturday. It begins with the South Chick Sunriser 5K race sponsored by Krystal Catering, standup paddleboard social paddle, bike parade put on by Art120, live bluegrass music, Girl Scouts art project, outdoor yoga classes put on by Yoga Landing, free bike and canoe rentals from Outdoor Chattanooga, food trucks, an outdoor open-air market, children’s activities and more. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
