Catherine Shaw Champion, 82, formerly of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Loganville, Georgia.

Catherine was born in Rockdale County, Ga.  She lived in East Metro Atlanta as a child and graduated from Roosevelt High School Class of 1952.  She attended the University of Georgia at Georgia State University where she majored in Economics.  While in college, she managed a finance company. Ever the physical conservative, she put her business background to work in real estate and politics.  She was a multi-million dollar sales and award-winning agent for Northside Reality in the 70s and 80s.  She was the former president of the Dekalb Realty Board.  She was a price analyst for the American Oil Company for the Southeastern U. S.  While in the Brookhaven (Club Drive) Atlanta area, she was a member of the Second Ponce De Leon Baptist Church.

She was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church in Chattanooga and her hobbies included gardening, golf, bird & turkey hunting and snowmobiling.  She was known for her love of family, friends and country.  She had a strong will, lots of energy and a tenacity for getting things done as a no-nonsense business person. 

Catherine was the former Dade County Commissioner from1992 – 1996, was appointed by then Governor Sunny Purdue to the Georgia Children and Youth Coordinating Council, and served on the Board of Directors of the Dade County Chamber of Commerce.  She was also a former president of the Republican Women of Hamilton County where she was presented with the Diamond Award for her outstanding leadership, and was also a member of the Pachyderm Club.

She joins in heaven her husband of 23 years, Walter Carl Champion, Jr.;

Surviving are her nephews, Jerry (Sharon) Pounds and James Pounds; and niece, Sandra McDaniel.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 8, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the funeral home with Dr. David Harr officiating and visitation one hour to the service.

Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
