Larry Schumacher Speaks At Walker County Chamber Luncheon April 26

Larry Schumacher, named chief operating officer of CHI Memorial in January, will be the keynote speaker at the Walker County Chamber of Commerce Membership luncheon on Tuesday, April 26, at 11:30 a.m. at the Walker County Civic Center. 

Dr. Schumacher comes to CHI Memorial from Hospital Sisters Health System based in Springfield, Ill. where he served as system chief operating officer for the past eight years. Prior to that, he served as president and chief executive officer of Via Christi Health Network in Wichita, Ks. and executive vice president and chief operating officer of Mercy Health Network in Des Moines, Io. 

Dr. Schumacher started his career in critical care and cardiovascular nursing at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, St. John’s Regional Health Center in Springfield, Mo., Indiana University Hospital/Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Research Medical Center in Kansas City, and Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Io. He has served in a variety of bedside nursing and nursing leadership roles including staff nurse, charge nurse, nurse director, and chief nursing officer. 

Dr. Schumacher has a diploma in nursing from the Burge School of Nursing in Springfield, Mo., a bachelor of science in nursing (cum laude) from Missouri State University, and a master of science in nursing from Indiana University. He also has an honorary doctor of science from the Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines, Io. He is very active in national and state hospital associations, nursing associations, the United Way, chambers of commerce, and other community organizations. 

Dr. Schumacher and his wife Casey have four sons, Matthew, Nicholas, Nathan and Mark. 

Door prizes for the event will be sponsored by CHI Memorial  The event will include a meal catered by No Small Affair, Carolyn Gamble.  

The cost to attend is $15 per member / $20 for non-members and includes a wonderful meal and program. Those wishing to attend must register online by visiting www.walkercochamber.com; registrations are due no later than Sunday, April 24, at midnight and no walk-ins will be accepted.  Non-Chamber members are required to pay by Visa or MasterCard at the time of registration.    Attendees may begin arriving at 11:30 a.m.; lunch will begin at 11:50 a.m. and the program shortly thereafter.
