Doug Blevins

Douglas Walker Blevins "Doug", 81 of Chattanooga, was suddenly called home by his heavenly father on Friday, July 22, 2016.

He was the son of the late Chester Ellis Blevins and Rosa Lee Walker Blevins.

He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1952.  Doug served his country in the National Guard and the U.S. Army with the 928th Engineer Aviation Group (EAG) (SCARWAF) and was stationed in Germany, France and England.  He retired from DuPont after 38 years of service.

Doug became a Christian as a young man, which was evidenced by the life he lived.  He was currently a member of the Mountain Creek Church of Christ, but during his jouney had been a member of several congregations in Chattanooga, including Signal Hills, Signal Moutain, White Oak and Hixson Churches of Christ.

Doug was a problem solver, blessed with the gift of skilled hands and a sharp, creative mind.  He generously offered his help, time and advice.  He was a loyal friend and was dedicated to taking care of his family.  He gave so much to others and expected so little in return.  He was our rock.  When he wasn’t building something or helping a friend, he loved fishing, camping and most of all spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Jean Gibbs and Margaret Ann Fressola, and his brother, Robert Donald Blevins (Don).

He was a loving husband to his wife, Lynn (Linda Young Blevins), for 57 years.  He was the best Daddy on earth to his daughter, Sherie Blevins Arnold (Lamar), and the Best Pop EVER to his granddaughter, Katie Arnold, who was the light of his life.  He is also survived by his sister, Martha Hillis (Lane), numerous nieces and nephews, many friends, and John Rogers, whom he loved like a son.

Funeral services for Doug will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, in the funeral home chapel with Gary Massey officiating.  Interment will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, July 25, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace.

Contributions may be made to Mountain Creek Church of Christ, 985 Runyan Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37405, or your favorite charity.  The family has entrusted Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace with the arrangements, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415, www.lanefh.com.
