Georgia Northwestern Technical College provided a learning environment for The Orange Duffle Bag Initiative Coaching Class 25 on the Floyd County Campus in Rome.

ODBI, a non-profit organization, helps young adults with limited resources create an educational plan and connects them to solutions for post-secondary success, officials said. The program provides certified coaching to high school students who are homeless, in foster care, are experiencing high poverty, and are at a greater risk of not completing their education.

“We appreciate that GNTC’s purpose, to provide education and skills training for the benefit of the community, allowed ODBI to further its mission to help students stay on track with their education success,” said Diana Black, vice president of the Orange Duffle Bag Initiative.

Each class that ODBI conducts is held on a university or technical college campus and is comprised of 25-30 high school teens.
The 12-week program prepares students to develop their own life and education plan.

Students who successfully complete the program present their life and education plans at a graduation ceremony. Upon graduating from the program, students are awarded with a laptop computer and an orange duffle bag.
