A Chicago man is facing federal charges after being caught on Saturday with 40 grams of heroin and a loaded semi-automatic handgun at a Lookout Valley motel.

Cornelius Q. Hill, 28, was charged with drug distribution, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

The arrest was made after Chattanooga Police officers made a search of room 219 at America's Best Value Inn on Patten Chapel Road.

Hill was also found with plastic baggies, digital scales and $1,550 in cash.

He told officers that he found the drugs "in bushes" along the way from Chicago to Chattanooga.

Hill said he also "found" the handgun, but could not remember where.
