The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Eastern Kentucky Friday afternoon in Richmond in non-conference action. Chattanooga falls to 2-5-1 overall while the Colonels match a school record for consecutive wins with five to improve to 5-3 on the year.
Eastern Kentucky got the first score in the seventh minute. Jordan Foster sent a shot in that came back. She picked it up and stuck it in the net for the eventual game winner.
“We conceded the early goal and it always a tough way to start the game,” Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said.
“We created more than enough opportunities for an equalizer, but couldn’t capitalize on it.
“If we had found that first goal, maybe we could have found a way for another.”
The Mocs kept the possession the majority of the game but were turned back several times. Juniors Peyton McCollum (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and McKenzie Gregg (Newport, Tenn.) each had two shots with both on goal.
Freshman Hannah Torbett (Johnson City, Tenn.) had a team-high three shots while three more were able to get off attempts in the game.
“We are going to have to find a way to get the goals,” McKinney said. “We start [Southern] Conference play next week.”
Freshman keeper Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) played all 90 minutes in goal and turned back four EKU shot attempts. The Colonels outshot the Mocs 13-10 with a narrow 5-4 shots on goal advantage.
Chattanooga will remain on the road to close out the non-conference slate Sunday at Austin Peay. The game is set to kick off at 2 p.m. Eastern time. Follow the action at GoMocs.com. Live stats and video streaming will be available at GoMocs.com.
