Joseph Glasscock, 84, of Red Bank, died quietly Friday morning September 30, 2016 at Alexian Nursing Home on Signal Mountain after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Joe was born in DeArmanville, Alabama on March 6, 1932 to the late A.R. and Margaret (Gossett) Glasscock. Joe moved to Red Bank with his parents in 1941. He attended public schools there and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1950. One of his favorite sayings was “I wasn’t born in Red Bank, but I got here as fast as I could”. He was a long time member of the Red Bank Jaycee’s and was instrumental in establishing driver education programs at Red Bank and Hixson High Schools. He also worked on the Jaycee’s voter registration drive. Both efforts received national awards for the organization. In 1970, Joe chaired the Tennessee Junior Miss Pageant. The event was recognized as the “Best State Pageant in the United States”.

He chaired the Jaycee’s committee to establish the first volunteer fire department and served as its first Fire Chief. He served on the Red Bank City Commission, Municipal Planning Commission, and served as Mayor for several terms. He chaired the committee to build the Bi-Lo Town Center Park, co-chaired the committee to build the Red Bank Community Center, Red Bank Dog Park, and initiated the campaign to build a new driver services center behind the fire hall #2 in Red Bank. That project was completed in October 2011. While Mayor, Joe was instrumental in acquiring land for the current Red Bank City Hall and Post Office.

A graduate of UTC, veteran of the U.S. Navy, he ran Glasscock Enterprises with his wife, Billie, and operated Glasscock Developments Inc. with his sons, Bryan and Barry. He attended Red Bank United Methodist Church since moving to Red Bank in 1941.

Joe will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Billie; sons, Bryan and Barry; daughters-in-law, Debbie and Audrey; grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica, Caitlin, and Levi; sister, Linda Glading(Scott); neices, Wanda Markum, Shelley Stratton, Jenny Jones, Laura Hoover, Amanda Caruso, Ashlea Comfort; nephews, Eddie Glasscock and Bill Jett; and many other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 2-5 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, at Red Bank United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Smith and Caleb Pitkin officiating. Entombment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors.

For those who wish, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Red Bank United Methodist Church Safe House Program, 3800 Dayton Blvd, Red Bank, TN 37415.

Pallbearers include Bryan Glasscock, Barry Glasscock, Kent Keasler, Eddie Glasscock, Andrew Glasscock, Levi Glasscock, Chip Martin, and Brian Sitton. Honorary pallbearers will include City of Red Bank officials and the Armstrong Lyons Sunday school class.
