Corker, Perdue, Graves Approve Jump Starting Keystone And American Energy Projects

  • Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Senator Bob Corker on Tuesday made the following statement after President Donald Trump announced the signing of an executive order to advance completion of the Keystone XL pipeline. He said the Obama administration previously denied approval for the final segment of the Keystone XL pipeline in 2015 "after years of exhaustive study and delays."

“I am pleased years of illogical and political delays preventing completion of the Keystone pipeline have finally come to an end. The Keystone pipeline is good for the economy and better for the environment than alternative methods of transporting the oil. Developing more of our domestic resources supports economic growth and the energy security demands of our country.”

U.S. Senator David Perdue said, "We finally have a president who has the guts to choose American workers over special interests. Energy projects like the Keystone Pipeline will generate jobs and inject new life into our economy.

"For years, we’ve had our hands tied by a Democratic Administration unwilling to unleash our full energy potential, even after its own environmental assessments returned favorable reviews. Last Congress, President Obama vetoed the Keystone Pipeline, after Congress approved the project with a bipartisan majority in both chambers.

"President Trump is already translating his rhetoric into results, and I look forward to working together to make our country more energy independent.”

Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) said, “I applaud President Trump for advancing the Keystone XL Pipeline, which Republicans in Congress pushed the Obama administration to approve for years. Construction of the pipeline will support more than 40,000 jobs and add billions of dollars to our economy. It was subject to five safety and environmental reviews by the State Department, and is even supported by labor unions. This action will make a real difference to all of the Americans who will have the opportunity to work and support their families as a result of this pipeline.”

He said, according to the State Department, construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline will support approximately 42,100 jobs and roughly $2 billion in earnings throughout the country.
