CHI Memorial Mobile Health Coach

CHI Memorial’s mobile health coach will provide mammography screenings and bone density screenings at CHI Memorial Community Health - Hixson on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m.–noon as part of a free community health fair.

All women should have one screening mammogram between the ages of 35-40. After age 40, a screening mammogram is recommended every year.  Any woman who meets these age guidelines and has not had a mammogram in the past 12 months may participate, with or without insurance.

For those with insurance, they must bring an insurance card and a photo ID, such as a driver’s license. Insurance will be filed for them.  If a person does not have insurance, they may qualify for financial assistance.  The MaryEllen Locher Breast Center receives grant funds from Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to provide women with education about and access to breast health services.  Partnerships with Tennessee Breast and Cervical Screening Program and the Susan G. Komen Foundation provide eligible uninsured and under-insured women with breast and cervical screenings.  If an abnormality is discovered, the diagnostic work up is covered and a financial plan is provided for any follow-up care.

Women need to know their doctor’s first and last name.

To schedule a screening, call 495-4040 or 866-591-2254.

CHI Memorial Community Health – Hixson is at 3905 Hixson Pike, Suite 103.

County Commissioners, Stop Pandering And Lead

There is no shortage of public need in Hamilton County, and only a limited amount of revenue and capital bond issues. I cannot admire or appreciate an elected Hamilton County Commission that leads by warm and fuzzy kitty emotions over real and tangible needs. As Commissioner Tim Boyd correctly stated, there is immediate and emergent need for police and fire training facilities. ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: The Lamar Rants

Being a child of the South, I’ve marveled at our funny sayings for all of my life. I’ve been at a football game and heard a disgruntled fan in the stands say of his team’s quarterback, “That boy couldn’t play dead in a cowboy movie.” I’ve been at the Sunday supper table and heard, “I’m of a mind each one of his sermons is better than the next.” And I’ve sat in a Saturday morning ...
