Wilson, Jimmy T.

Business Leader In Chattanooga

  • Monday, December 18, 2017
The psalmist tells us “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” (116:15). This verse was our consolation as we gathered around our father, brother and grandfather for his home going. Jimmy T. Wilson made his heavenly journey on Saturday, December 16, 2017, and was joyfully reunited with his wife, Virginia and his son, Gary. He honored us with life and we cherish his memory.

Jimmy T. Wilson was born on Aug. 10, 1929, to James and Selena Wilson. He attended Red Bank High School, graduating in the class of 1947 where he met his future wife, Virginia Houts. They were married on June 11, 1950, and she preceded him in death in 1996. He was also preceded in death by their son Gary, his parents, and his sister Mary Elizabeth Wilson.

Jimmy began his work with Standard Appliance in 1958 and became owner of the business in 1978. He was business leader in the greater Chattanooga community and a member of The Gideons International.

Jimmy Wilson lived his life to the fullest and was most happy in the service of his Lord. He and his wife impacted thousands of lives through their ministries at Highland Park Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the orchestra, playing trumpet for decades. He served on the Board of Trustees for Tennessee Temple University, as well. His greatest joy was his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a rock for his family through many triumphs and trials. His contagious smile and joy for life will be missed by all those who knew him, and he will live on through those with whom he came into contact. The family will cherish the lessons he taught them: how to love one another, how to lead a family and ultimately how to honor the Lord until all are called home.

Jimmy is survived by his eternally grateful family, including his children, Gloria Cowan and Mark Wilson (Annie), sister, Jean Looney (son, Raymond); and brother, Wayne Wilson (Lenita).

He enjoyed more of the riches of life through his grandchildren and great grandchildren:
Nathan Cowan (Kelly), Ainsley, Sloan and Beckett; Jillian Cowan, Nicholas Cowan, David Wilson (Kristen), Kristen Wilson and Corey Wilson.

Jimmy will be remembered as a true believer in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, a selfless father, an astute businessman, a loving husband, a dear uncle, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather and a shining star in the church and community he served.

The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to all the staff at Alexian Valley Residence for their attentiveness and care.

Services to honor the life and memory of Jimmy T. Wilson will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 2:30 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 1-2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations and memorial gifts may be made to Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Arrangements are under the care of Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
