Chattanooga-Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association Offers Scholarships For Future Teachers

 The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association (CHCRTA), announced that applications are open for 2017. The scholarship program is made possible through generous donations from members to support the future of education. The Association (CHCRTA) was established on May 16, 1957, as the first retired teachers association in Tennessee. 

Mr. Ron Moss, president of CHCRTA said, “The best teachers are dedicated, capable and hardworking. Our association is pleased to sponsor scholarships for future teachers again this year. These scholarships are available to help prospective teachers complete a degree program leading to teacher licensure.” 

The Margaret Ferger Scholarship, valued at $2,000 each, will be awarded to three graduating high school students currently attending a public high school in Hamilton County. 

The CHCRTA Scholarship for Aspiring Educators at UTC, valued at $1,000, will be awarded to a current UTC student who is a graduate of a public high school in Hamilton County. Qualifying applicants are approaching their final year in college and are majoring or minoring in education. 

The Margaret Ferger Scholarship applications are available from Hamilton County School Counselors and College Advisors. Applications for the CHCRTA Scholarship for Aspiring Educators are available from the STEA faculty advisor at UTC and from the UTC Director of the School of Education.
