Johnny Eugene Powell, 78, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 21, 2017.

Johnny was the son of the late Benton and Virginia Colbaugh Powell. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Meigs County. He served in the Meigs County government in various roles, including trustee, county executive, and tax assessor, but his greatest passion was farming.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ricky Powell, Joe Powell, sister, Brenda Powell Hickman.

Survivors include his wife of 49 1/2 years, Alice Edgemon Powell of Decatur, son, Jason Powell (Wendi) of Decatur, daughter, Rachel Moore (David) of Decatur, sisters, Sharon Powell Parks (John) of Gallatin, Tn., grandchildren, Jaci Powell, Nate Powell, Mattie Moore, Landon Moore, several nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, with the Reverend Andrew Lay and Reverend Hugh Bryan officiating.

Interment will be on Monday, April 24, at 11 a.m. in the Beta Cemetery, with Steve Beaty, Charlie Duckett, Danny Smith, Bobby Winders, Lester Elkins, and Franklin Billingsley serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at Bowers Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial donation to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 355 Lake Haven Circle, Decatur, Tn. 37322.
