John A. Ward, 81 of Decatur, went home to be with Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at his home.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur and owned and operated J & S Pawn Shop on River Road in Decatur for 31 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Amanda Powers Ward.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Susie Ward of Decatur; son, Chris Erwin (Kathy) of Decatur; daughter, Terri Ward of Ten Mile; brothers, Oscar Ward (Kay) of Hamilton County, Martin Ward (Phyllis) of Chattanooga, Robert Ward (Vickie) of Decatur; sister, Iva Lillard (Jim) of Decatur; grandson, Matthew Buckner of San Pedro, Ca.; and several special nieces and nephews and friends will all miss him.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamey Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 27, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be Wednesday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at Beta Cemetery in Decatur.
Serving as pallbearers are Clay Moss, Chad Combs, Scott Curtis, Jessie Combs, Oscar Ward, and Robert Ward. Honorary pallbearers are Jessie Wilson, Bob Newman, Johnny Watkins, John Keylon, Bob Ward, and R.J. Lillard.
